How to create a luxurious home interior

If you want to create a more luxurious home interior, but aren't quite sure where to begin with this task, here are a few suggestions to help you get started.

Hire an interior designer

Creating an opulent home isn't just about filling up your house with designer furniture; it's about constructing a visually harmonious space, in which the right mixture of lighting, artwork and furnishings have been carefully positioned to create a coherent, balanced and beautiful overall look. As such, unless you are artistically-inclined, it is best to hire an interior designer to assist you with this project. Their expertise and experience will enable them to select a combination of decorative goods that work well together and that will allow you to create the type of luxurious, elegant space you desire.

Moreover, interior  designers usually have access to a much wider range of resources than the average consumer; this can prove to be very useful when designing a high-end interior, as they will be able to easily source hard-to-find items, such as specific types of antiques. They can also help you to find more affordable versions of luxury home goods.

Replace carpets with wood floors

Carpeting can give a room a cosy look. However, even the most expensive carpeting tends to lack the elegance and durability of timber flooring. The latter has a classic look that is synonymous with luxury; unlike coloured or patterned carpets, which have a tendency to go out of style after a few years, it never dates. It's also a practical choice; when wooden floors are damaged through daily wear and tear or by spillages, you can renew their appearance by sanding and re-staining. This is not the case with carpets, which are much harder to repair and therefore tend to have a significantly shorter lifespan.

Re-paint

Painting the walls of your home is by far the quickest and easiest way to improve its appearance. However, if you're determined to give the rooms of your house a sumptuous look, it's crucial to choose the right colours. Many people who want to create an opulent home choose white walls. Whilst this can work well in many cases, white can sometimes make a space look quite bland and stark; two characteristics which are certainly not associated with luxury or elegance. If you like the idea of a neutral wall colour, it may be better to use a softer shade of white, with warmer undertones, like cream or eggshell.

Using rich jewel tones is another effective way to make a space seem more lavish; a splash of deep teal or a dark berry on the walls of a living room can completely transform its appearance. If you decide to go down this route, it's worth noting that you may need to opt for light-coloured furniture, in order to create a balanced look. Additionally, if the area that you intend to paint is quite small, it may be best to create a feature wall with your chosen colour, as dark, rich hues can make modestly-sized rooms feel even smaller.
