3 Types of Blinds You Should Consider if You Have a Family With Kids

For one, blinds give you total control over privacy, making sure that no ill-intentioned passersby can see your children or your belongings if you don't want them too. On top of that, they allow you to let just as much light into your house as you want to, making them perfect for keeping kids asleep until morning and eliminating that before-school grogginess. Of course, there are some types of blinds that are better for families with children than others. If you're not sure where to start on your blind-buying journey, here are three types to consider.
1. Cordless cellular shades
Cellular shades are a great option because they are easy to install and operate, and they take little time to roll up. They also come in cordless varieties, which is a great feature to have when you have children in the house. While blind cords may seem relatively harmless, they can easily cause strangulation or cut off limb circulation if curious young children get caught in them. That said, if you're looking to keep things cheap, manual cellular shades are just as useful.
2. Cordless roller blinds
Another great option to consider is cordless roller blinds. Just like the cellular shades, roller blinds can be motorised or operated by hand. Instead of adjusting them using a cord, you can easily change their opening height and orientation with a built-in spring-tension lift. This allows your children to control them just as safely as you can yourself, making them a great part of building independence. Roller blinds come in a very wide range of materials, colours, and sizes, so finding options that fit each room of your home perfectly won't be a problem. They're also relatively easy to maintain and install.
3. Interior shutters
A great option for you to consider if you want to protect your child's room from the sun's dangerous UV rays and create a more private space for them is interior shutters. Interior shutters have no cords at all and are usually opened and closed by tilting the louvres by hand, so they're completely child-safe. They also have a classic and elegant look that suits traditional-style homes perfectly. That said, they offer a little less control over lighting and privacy than roller blinds, so they're not the top choice for everyone.
